Are you an Aspiring Supervisor or Manager?
The Recreation Facility Management Certificate was developed in partnership between the Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) and Alberta Association of Recreation Facility Personnel (AARFP) in order to deliver technical and management skills specific to aspiring and current supervisors and managers in the recreation industry. The RDP component of this certificate will provide you with the theory and skills required to excel in a supervisory or management role. While the AARFP technical training will give you a deep understanding of recreational facility operations, great networking opportunities and hands on experience. These two components make the Recreation Facility Management Certificate the perfect formula for managerial success.
If you have questions please contact the RFP Office by phone or by email.
Next Steps
To obtain the Recreation Facility Management Certificate there are two steps to complete. You do not need to complete them in sequential order, nor is there a time limit between the two steps.
The first step is to complete the RDP’s Management Skills for Supervisors Certification (MSFS) program. It is an in-person, part time program that takes 26 hours to complete. Within the MSFS program, there are four modules which are each calibrated to provide the essential skills required to manage people, optimize productivity and improve leadership abilities. The second step is to complete the following courses: Arena Operator Level 1, Parks and Sports Fields Level 1, Building Maintenance Level 1 and Swimming Pool Operator Level 1. These four courses will provide you with a firm understanding of the recreation operations with practical and technical training. You can see the course descriptions highlighted below. Once you have completed all the components of the certificate you will then need to apply to Red Deer Polytechnic for your certificate.
